Football Recap: Broncos Edge Hapless Jets in Low-Scoring Affair
During a defensive struggle on Sunday, the Broncos clinched a 13-11 win over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz provided the game-winning go-ahead field goal to secure the ugly win.
Dominant Performance Wins Contest
Despite registering nine sacks versus Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following giving up a safety in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets managed just 82 total net yards during the contest.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's short field goal with just over five minutes left.
Historic Difficulties for Jets Attack
Despite their horrendous offensive display, the Jets maintained the ball with a chance to score a potential victory. However Fields was sacked on fourth down from the Denver 44 after head coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion instead of calling on specialist Nick Folk for a difficult kick.
Fields had difficulties throughout, connecting on just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York finished with minus-10 passing yards, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," Glenn commented following the contest.
